Natural Wellness Tips for The Over-Stimulated Woman: Morning Routine

In modern society, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and overstimulated by the endless demands on our time, energy, and focus. From digital overload to emotional clutter, finding a sense of balance is difficult, especially for women juggling multiple responsibilities. This five-part blog installment is all about helping you regain that balance with natural wellness tips to calm your mind, refresh your routines, and declutter your life and spirit. On this journey, I’ll guide you through creating a grounded morning routine to start your day with intention, a tech detox to clear your mental space, a guide to help you organize your heart and soul, how to perfect the self-care night-in, and we’ll finish off with a restful evening routine to promote better sleep. Let’s take small, mindful steps to restore your sense of calm and well-being.

Part 1: A Gentle, Grounding Morning Routine

The sound of my alarm is the first thing I hear every single morning… if I’m not counting my cat Sasha begging us for food the hour before sunrise. The loud ringing of a traditional alarm is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard, and the memes about the classic iPhone sound sending people into instant panic online prove to me I’m not alone. Take the time now to go through your alarm app and change any harsh tones to a soothing sound that slowly fades in; for example, Helios on iPhone. This small minor detail really sets the mood for the rest of your day. The more pleasant your waking up experience, the better mood you will be in.

When I first wake up, I have to take time before I get out of bed to fully get into my body. I’m someone who absolutely needs an hour or two of alone time before I’m fully awake and ready to interact with the rest of the world. My husband says I’m not a morning person, but I blame it on Sleep Inertia. I love mornings! The sun is shining, birds are chirping, there’s a breeze in the air, and the day is full of possibilities… as long as I’ve had my coffee, of course.

Next, have a glass of water. When you sleep, your body becomes dehydrated, and having a glass first thing in the morning can help quickly get you back to feeling hydrated a refreshed! This can also jumpstart your metabolism, improve digestion, and promote healthy circulation. Adding a slice of lemon to your water can further enhance these benefits by providing vitamin C and aiding digestion. Sometimes I like to add a dropper or two of Chlorophyll which acts as a powerful antioxidant that helps reduce oxidative stress and promote cellular health. It can also help improve digestion by promoting a healthy gut environment.

*I’ve been trying to cut out coffee, or at least have less of it, and so I push my morning coffee to a couple of hours after I wake up - not the first thing as I have in the past.

Now it’s time to ground ourselves and connect our mind, body, and heart. What intention am I setting? What can I do differently today? How can I bring more peace into my life?

In a quiet area of your home, or outdoors, set up a comfy resting area and sit with your legs crossed, back straight, hands in your lap, and eyes closed. Listen around you.

Take these moments to fully ground yourself and start your day with clarity and calm. Grounding helps you center your thoughts and reset your energy. This quiet practice gives you the mental space to prepare for the challenges ahead, ensuring you feel focused, present, and ready to take on the day.

Here are some really great videos you can watch to help you get started with this practice:

Now that we’ve connected with ourselves and have had time to fully awaken, I like to move toward my morning skincare and oral-care routines. Everyone’s skincare routine is different and varies in length, for the mornings I don’t wear too much makeup I add additional steps to target any concerns I have. For example, If my skin is looking a little dull, I’ll include a vitamin C serum, or I’ll include a sheet mask if I need extra moisture. I always end with SPF. Sunscreen is a non-negotiable for me. Not only does it protect your skin from premature aging, but most importantly it protects your body from sun damage that can cause cancer. Aesthetics are beautiful, but health is wealth.

To finish up the morning routine I brush my teeth, but occasionally I will oil-pull. It’s not my favorite thing to do - it tastes weird and the texture takes some getting used to. But it’s something I’m trying! You can learn more about oil-pulling and it’s benefits here!

Setting a gentle and intentional morning routine can make a world of difference in how you approach the day. From stretching your body to staying hydrated, practicing mindfulness, grounding yourself, and caring for your skin, these simple steps can promote a sense of calm and readiness for whatever comes your way. It’s all about starting your day with purpose and nurturing your body and mind.

In my next post, we will dive into an essential part of clearing your mental space—a tech detox. Something we all could benefit from. Stay tuned for tips on how to declutter your digital world, break free of the doom-scroll, and regain peace and focus.
